The Flash Season 5: 4 Ups & 3 Downs From ‘Time Bomb’

1. Cicada's Death

The Flash Barry Orlin Dwyer Cicada
The CW

While it was nice to see some juicy and emotional material from Dwyer, it was unfortunately just too short-lived. The original Cicada's attempts to appeal to his niece fell on deaf ears as she only temporarily ceased her attack on The Flash before she summoned her uncle's dagger and forced it into his own back. Yes, in a bizarre twist of fate, Grace (the person he had been doing all of this for) stabbed him in the back, killing him in the same fashion that he had killed so many metahumans before.

There is no denying Grace's potential as Cicada but her unspeakable actions have destroyed her only emotional tether. Furthermore, they didn't really fit in with her actual mission. She didn't travel to the past to just randomly start killing people there, she showed up as she longed to team with her uncle because, when you strip all the layers back, she missed him and wanted to be just like him. So, now that she's killed him, where does she go from here?

Killing Dwyer seemed like a step in the wrong direction because, not only did it portray the original Cicada as merely a footnote in a larger story, it's rendered Grace into nothing more than a bloodlust-fuelled murderer.
