The Flash Season 5: 6 Major Questions After The Midseason Premiere

4. Will Cisco And Caitlin Actually Create A Cure For Metahumans?

The Flash Season 5
The CW

Following Cisco's bizarre change of heart, he and Caitlin eventually agreed that they would begin work on engineering a cure for metahumans. The S.T.A.R. Labs dream team originally saw the idea of a "meta-cure" differently, with Caitlin championing metahumans, claiming that not all abilities are a curse. But when Cisco opened up about his desire to lead a normal life, he managed to melt even Killer Frost's heart, eventually leading to the pair agreeing on the matter (as long as each meta was given a choice).

The Flash has relied heavily upon its metahumans since the very beginning and, as we can all probably tell by now, Central City is full of them. So the idea that the show, now five seasons in, is tackling the possibility of a metahuman cure is rather exciting.

However, if Caitlin and Cisco successfully manage to create one, it would lead to a series of intriguing debates over whether or not they have the right to take away someone's powers, even if the villain in question is abusing them. Moreover, given that Cisco's resentment towards his abilities is likely to change, the fact that we're not even halfway through the season yet and the moral implications that curing metahumans against their wishes will lead to, we have to wonder if they will even get the chance to introduce one. They could end up engineering a cure and eventually decide against using it.

Either way, there is a strong possibility that the "meta-cure" may never come to be.
