The Flash Season 5: 6 Ups & 1 Down From ‘Blocked’

5. The Heartbreak Continues For Cisco

The Season 5 premiere featured a heavily intoxicated/heavily hungover Cisco Ramon painfully joke his way through Team Flash's first mission of the season so far. The reason for that was, of course, down to the fact that he wasn't over his breakup Gypsy. Despite the gravity of the situation, his unamused sarcasm was one of the episode's highlights. However, this week's outing took a different stance on the same matter, and it was much superior.

While The CW's Arrowverse shows often rely too heavily on throwaway lines of dialogue to do the job for them, that wasn't the case here. Yes, Cisco told us last week that he was still hurting over the loss of Gypsy, but this week, he showed us. From watching old messages from her to doing his best to reinvent himself, it was clear that he was still absolutely destroyed by the fact that things didn't work out between them.

Given that he's one of the quirky team members that is often just utilised to explain technical things or assist the protagonist, not to mention the fact that the show often relies on a storyline-of-the-week format, it was a pleasant surprise to see his storyline progress in two consecutive episodes - and the writers deserve an applause for successfully pulling this off.

In more good news, he's not the only supporting character that got some well-deserved attention...
