The Flash Season 5: 6 Ups & 2 Downs From 'King Shark Vs. Gorilla Grodd'

5. An Emotional Obstacle For Iris To Overcome

While Iris West-Allen has proven herself to be a great leader on Team Flash, there was always the danger that, by being a part of the show's core team, she would end up getting swallowed by the ensemble's goal of each episode instead of having her own goals and ambitions. She has fallen victim to it a few times in the past, but thankfully, this season the writers are intent on ensuring that this doesn't happen.

Not only does her goal in 'King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd' relate to her feelings over her recent encounter with Cicada, it relates to her overall fear in regards to her writing career. By confronting the Big Big recently, she allowed herself and, in extension, her family to become targets in the villain's rampage and that is the reality that she is going to have to deal with if she intends to pursue her lane of reporting.

Like everything obstacle she faces, Iris managed to overcome her fears (with a little help from Joe) and returned to her office to pick up right where she left off, ensuring that she will continue to do her own thing in the weeks ahead - which is undoubtedly great news.

As Team Flash's leader, she is great, but as Iris West-Allen, she is brilliant.
