The Flash Season 5: 6 Ups & 2 Downs From 'King Shark Vs. Gorilla Grodd'
3. Improved CGI
When it was revealed that we'd be getting a showdown between King Shark and Gorilla Grodd, we knew that we were in for a CGI-heavy episode. Now, in the past The Flash has been rather hit-and-miss in the CGI department, particularly when it comes to Grodd.
The character's first full-length episode was incredibly well-received and the presentation of the telepathic gorilla was so strong that it even earned the show an Emmy nomination. However, Season 3's Gorilla City episodes really overdid it and ended up diluting the quality of every single computer-generated gorilla. So, it's easy to see why the thought of an episode devoted to two CGI monsters was initially a little worrying. Thankfully, 'King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd' delivered on all fronts.
Not only was the individual presentation of both monsters far superior to some of their recent appearances, the fight scenes were very well-executed and, for the most part, were incredibly convincing. Whether it was down to the episode's genius pacing (saving the big visuals until the end) or perhaps the show now has a bigger budget to spend on visual effects, the improvement was evident.
We may not expect Game Of Thrones-level CGI from most TV shows, but we do expect a high standard and, thankfully, that's exactly what we got here.
