The Flash Season 6: 7 Theories On The Identity Of The New Big Bad
5. The Monitor
The Monitor was, in many ways, the real Big Bad of the Elseworlds crossover.
Through his mysterious ways, he gifted the Book of Destiny to the unhinged John Deegan, allowing the Arkham psychiatrist's bizarre fantasies to run wild. Of course, it was subsequently revealed that the celestial being was actually just doing so in a bid to test Earth-1 before the impending Crisis and, as a result, he eventually agreed to assist them in undoing the damage.
However, since that very moment, he hasn't exactly given us reason to trust him. He showed up in the Arrow finale to collect Oliver Queen, who has apparently agreed to sacrifice himself to save the multiverse, only to then arrive on Earth-38 in the Supergirl finale to unleash J'onn J'onzz's villainous twin brother and apparently revive Lex Luthor. He also appeared in the Legends of Tomorrow finale and did absolutely nothing to help the titular heroes from preventing hell on earth.
With all of that in mind, it's possible that he has no intention of saving the multiverse and would actually prefer for the Crisis to happen - remember, he did decimate Earth-90 in the midst of his mad tests and then refused to allow that world's veteran Flash to compete in the Earth-1 test, banishing him to God-knows-where. But just how does the CW's Scarlet Speedster play into all of this?
Though Arrow's final season will be Crisis-heavy, it doesn't mean that The Flash won't have its part to play. The Crisis first became a reality because of the series and, given Barry's apparent future sacrifice - a sacrifice that Oliver will now seemingly execute instead - The Monitor will likely have a major role in The Flash as well. But will he do so as a friend, or a foe?
