Opening the episode with a barbecue at the Wests was the gift we had all forgotten that we really needed. Seeing Barry, Iris, Joe and Cecile, accompanied by Caitlin, Cisco and Kamilla was a real reminder of what makes this show work - family.

The Flash's strongest storylines have always revolved around the Wests and the Allens (or the West-Allens) because, when family is involved, the stakes are always high. And it's these family-orientated stories that have provided the show with its best moments thus far.

If new showrunner Eric Wallace really wants to recapture what made the first few seasons so special, he's certainly on the right track here. From the focus on the extended family's struggle over the loss of Nora to the emotional scenes Iris shared with Barry and Cecile, there were a ton of beautiful moments that highlighted the importance of family - and that is what The Flash is all about.
