Joe West is woven into the fabric of The Flash in a way that few other characters are. He's been there from the very beginning, and he never fails to offer up some loving advice to any character in need. Yes, 'Papa Joe' is part of the show's heart and soul.
In his first year as CCPD Captain, he wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty, assisting Team Flash as always with the Bloodwork debacle before going it alone to quietly investigate Black Hole. This led to a surprisingly harrowing character journey for him as he was forced to enter witness protection in order to protect his family from Carver and the mysterious organization.
While it was frustrating that the character spent a large portion of the season off-screen, Jesse L. Martin had a way of making it all worthwhile, delivering some powerhouse performances either before or after Joe's sporadic absences to remind us exactly why we loved him so much.
