The Flash Season 6 Review: 3 Ups & 3 Downs From 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang'
2. It All Felt Very Episodic
Ever hear of B.A.R.I.? You know, the artificial intelligence system based around Barry Allen himself that Cisco had been spending far too many late nights on? Oh oh, what about the fact that he no longer had any faith in himself and thus had to create said A.I. in order to help him make decisions? No? Well surely you must have heard about the bizarre night-time behaviour he was experiencing as the result of either suppression of his powers or a faulty white noise machine? Heck, we didn't even know he had a white noise machine.
'Kiss Kiss Breach Breach' was centred on Cisco's overall emotional journey, and yet it all felt very episodic. It was built upon foundations that had never been a thing before and now, all of a sudden, they were there because we were told they were. Meanwhile, a two-week time jump was written into the narrative to make it all the more plausible.
Yes, the writers absolutely nailed the basis of the storyline, but it would have carried a lot more gravity if these issues (such as the possibility of Breacher Psychosis) hadn't just been thrown in as if they were made up at the last minute. As a result, in spite of the emotional weight the story carried, it still ended up coming off like a standalone adventure-of-the-week episode.
