The Flash Season 6 Review: 4 Ups & 2 Downs From 'License To Elongate'

1. Barry Allen's Heroics Are Recognised

The thing that ultimately makes The Flash the Arrowverse's greatest hero isn't his fast legs or iconic symbol; it's the man underneath that red mask. Yes, if you watch his debut appearance in Arrow or the first season of The Flash, you'll see that Barry Allen has been a hero long before he was ever gifted with super-speed - a gift that only enhanced what was already there.

In many ways, that's what this episode was really about as Ralph spent much of it telling his best friend that he was more important to their stories than The Flash ever was. Of course, we all knew that - the only person that didn't was Barry himself.

It's rather fitting that an episode framed to be about one thing and ultimately turned out to be about another ended with a press conference that essentially did the same thing. Sure, The Flash succeeded in his mission to honour Elongated Man at the CCPD press conference, but he was caught off-guard by the stretchy hero's unexpected tribute to Barry Allen, the civilian.

Seeing Barry get a little emotional up there on stage in front of Joe and all of his colleagues was a moment worth celebrating because he finally got the credit he deserved. And it added more emotional gravity to the story as it's really beginning to look like the writers are preparing to bid the Scarlet Speedster farewell - even though we already know that they're not.

Central City finally knows who its purest hero is, and his name is Barry Allen.
