The Flash Season 6 Review: 4 Ups & 3 Downs From 'There Will Be Blood'
1. The Emotional Gravity Of The Crisis
We've spent most of this review referring to how Team Flash were attempting to process Barry's revelation, so we might as well go all in and discuss why it was so brilliant.
On a show that is flooded with metahumans, monsters and, in this episode, even the walking dead, there's something to be said for the quiet moments. You know, the ones that don't feature any action, or explosions or monsters. The ones that take time away from 'business as usual' and let us see how that business is affecting everyone involved. Those are the moments that stay with us, and that's why this episode was so good.
Cisco, Ralph, Killer Frost; they all reacted the way that they did because they're terrified of losing their best friend. And the ironic thing is that the one person who played a part in holding Team Flash togetherfor Barry is the one person that ultimately ended up hurting the most.
Barry's heart-to-hearts with Joe West often stand out among some of The Flash's best moments, but the closing scene of 'There Will Be Blood' may have been their best yet. The CCPD captain's emotional breakdown reinforced what everyone had been feeling in the episode, reminding Barry and all of us of the good that The Flash has done. And that prompted him to remind Joe that he would never have become the hero that he is without a father like him.
This was an in-depth, raw and moving look at how the Crisis is affecting these characters and everything, from the writing to Grant Gustin and Jesse L. Martin's phenomenal performances solidified this as The Flash's greatest moment in a very long time. Stunning.
