The Flash Season 6 Review: 6 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Marathon'
1. Iris West-Allen Steals The Show
It was a bold move on the part of The Flash's creative team to give the Scarlet Speedster a backseat in the midseason premiere, but it's one that absolutely paid off because it had an equally as strong character leading the charge in Iris West-Allen. You might scoff at a statement like that, but that's only because you never got to know the true Iris - the Iris she was always meant to be. Well, we all got that chance in 'Marathon'.
Attempting to track down and expose the secret Black Hole organization, Iris would stop at nothing to reveal the truth - showcasing the heart, tenacity and fearlessness that any intrepid reporter worth their weight in gold would possess. And there's an irony in that because Iris truly was worth her weight in gold this week - as she was the one who got under Black Hole's skin and, by the looks of things, she could be the one to bring them down.
The character has drifted from role to role over the years when the writers could have solved their confusion so much earlier by allowing her to do what she was always meant to do: Report. Now that she's finally doing so, she's absolutely flourishing - and, because of that, so is the show.
Iris was a strong protagonist here, ensuring that Candice Patton was nothing short of a delight to watch.
