The Flash Season 6 Review: 6 Ups & 2 Downs From 'The Exorcism Of Nash Wells'
1. Damn It, Barry
The way in which the narrative of the episode was mapped out worked really well, as Barry's powerful emotions drove it home nicely - allowing him to maintain a solid grip on an episode that wasn't actually about him. That said, it did feel like one or two liberties had to be taken in order to get it to where it needed to go.
Barry and Caitlin's argument over Velocity-9 was great, serving as a strong moment of conflict between two characters who just don't interact enough on a one-to-one basis anymore, but the former's actions did risk falling into the "Been there, done that, messed up the timeline" bracket.
What that means is that Barry is long enough in the tooth now to trust his friends in their field of expertise and he's learned enough lessons to know that when he's told not to do something, he shouldn't do it. So this momentary lapse threatened to undercut all of that development for an episodic plot - albeit a brilliant one.
Moreover, his panic and defiance all felt a little sudden. Sure, Sunshine was a formidable foe, but he didn't exactly give Frost long enough to muster an offence before taking the drug. And on top of all of that, who's to say he couldn't have used the little speed he had left to help her instead of going straight for the booster (that ultimately failed him)?
Now, for the positives...
