The Flash Season 6 Review: 6 Ups & 2 Downs From 'The Last Temptation Of Barry Allen, Pt. 1'

2. Grant Gustin's Performance

The Flash Season 6 Barry Allen
The CW

Grant Gustin isn't just one of the best performers on The Flash, in the Arrowverse or even on The CW. He's one of the best performers of this generation. A bold statement, sure, but one that can be easily backed up by watching some of his work from the earlier seasons... or you could save yourself the trouble and just watch his performance in 'The Last Temptation of Barry Allen, Pt. 1'.

A desperate man clinging onto life in any way that he can possibly can, Barry didn't know how much he wanted to live until he saw what he was about to lose. Now that's some complex writing, and it was all capped off by an absolutely masterful performance from Gustin.

Scratching and clawing at his childhood bedsheets, achingly longing to hold his baby daughter in his arms or holding his head in a maddening rage; every little nuance and detail from the young actor ensured that we felt every single thing that Barry was going through - so much so that you couldn't help but feel absolutely gutted for him when he finally admitted through tears that he didn't "want to die".

It's easy to get used to watching a great performer when they consistently deliver great performances, but this one was something else entirely - one that harked back to the earlier days of The Flash as Gustin delivered one of the (if not the) best offerings he has ever produced.
