The Flash Season 6 Review: 6 Ups & 2 Downs From 'The Last Temptation Of Barry Allen, Pt. 1'

1. Only The Beginning

As we're living in an era in which television on a whole is more serialised than it once was, it's common practice to have some of (if not all) the main narratives carry on into the following episode. Though that format certainly improves the storytelling process, it has meant that there is somewhat less of a need for one of TV's old methods of pulling off temporary serialised storytelling - the two-parter.

But in case the title didn't already give it away, The Flash's serialised format certainly hasn't prevented it from utilising the classic device, as 'The Last Temptation of Barry Allen, Pt. 1' is only the beginning of what's to come. And that's one of the things that ultimately allowed the episode to stand out as the season's best so far.

As this is essentially one story split into two halves, the episode was able to take its time with everything, settling into some of the more emotional moments without feeling the need to rush through anything. And with the Crisis on the horizon, it's important that we, as viewers, are allowed to see the quieter, emotional moments without feeling like they're being fast-tracked - as many of the Arrowverse shows tend to leave us feeling that way.

Seeing the words 'To Be Continued' flash up on the screen after Barry's defection to Bloodwork's army certainly made this writer's heart flutter a little, because undoubtedly the best (or should that be 'the worst'?) is yet to come.
