After being caught, June was sent to the Red Center where she was chained to a bed and monitored by several aunts. While it's possible that this was some form of punishment for her escape, her chains were more likely in place to avoid any future escape attempts. Upon returning to the Waterfords, June saw Nick for the first time since their time together at the Boston Globe.

She stared at the Commander's driver with a melancholic look, and we could tell that Nick desperately wanted to help, but in reality there isn't much he could do right now. The gaze went on a bit too long — long enough for Serena to pick up on it.

Remember, this isn't the first time Serena caught Nick being intimate with June. During Season 1, she walked in on the pair embracing in the dining room. And of course, it was Serena's idea to have June sleep with Nick in order for her to get pregnant, but this was under her watch.

All of this begs the question of whether or not Serena is aware of the extent of Nick and June's relationship. If she is, then it spells trouble for Nick down the line because it wouldn't take too much effort to figure out that he aided in June's escape.
