The Handmaid's Tale Season 2: 10 Big Questions After 'Other Women'

7. Will Commander Waterford Rekindle His Bizarre Relationship With June/Offred?

Commander Waterford had a bizarre relationship with June/Offred before her escape. It was innocent at first: he would invite the Handmaid to office, where he would give her gifts and played scrabble with her, but things became uneasy as the relationship turned sexual.

Gilead's law dictates that a commander cannot have relations with a Handmaid and, considering he has a seat on the committee, Fred was pushing his luck where Offred was concerned.

Fellow committee member Warren Putnam, who had a secret sexual relationship with his Handmaid, lost an arm as punishment. So, it will certainly be interesting to see if Fred rekindle this relationship with his Handmaid.

While the two barely interacted in Other Women, June's return to the household — and to her position as Offred — does give the Commander prime opportunity to continue his odd relationship with her, but will he risk the consequences now he knows what the powers that be do to people who commit this sin?
