Downs...

3. It's Too Dark

The Handmaid's Tale is without a doubt the most aesthetically pleasing show on television. Everything about the way it's filmed is stunning. From the crisp colors, to the field of depth shots, not to mention the 2:1 aspect ratio, the show's cinematography is nothing short of magnificent. There's no question that a lot of the show's appeal lies in the way it's filmed. But this episode was a little too dark.

Perhaps it was meant to reflect the dark world of Gilead, or perhaps it was to be metaphorically representative of June's state of mind, but it was incredibly difficult to see what was going on during the scenes that took place at night.

Offred's hideous bedroom is dark enough as it is, but at night it's nearly impossible to see what's going on and, as she wasn't narrating this episode, it was hard to focus on what was in front of us.

While the show has a wonderful aesthetic, it would be nice to see what is actually going on.
