The Handmaid's Tale Season 2: 7 Ups And 1 Down From 'After'
Ups...
7. Funeral Attire For The Handmaids
The red outfits and the white-winged headwear is a look that has become synonymous with the handmaids — both in the show and in the real world.
In After, the remaining handmaids gather to mourn the loss of their fellow friends - the ones who died following Ofglen's attack. As the women walk to the memorial service in the snow, they wear black capes, black outfits and - in place of the traditional white hat — a black hat. Additionally, they also have their faces covered with a red scarf.
The dark blacks of the outfits juxtapose the snowy backdrop wonderfully, as the women bid farewell to the dead handmaids.
It's an incredibly powerful scene - one that is beautifully directed by Kari Skogland.
