The Handmaid's Tale Season 2: 7 Ups And 1 Down From 'After'
3. Emily's Return To Gilead
Ever since her arrest back in Season 1, Emily has been suffering away in the Colonies. But her heartache came to an end in this week's episode because she was returned to Gilead. Let's be real: if an intervention didn't take place, then it was likely that Emily would've died in the Colonies. Make no mistake, however, as Emily wasn't rescued because of her health. She was rescued for the sake of Gilead.
Because of the number of handmaids killed in Oflgen's attack, the powers that be decided to pull the healthy - well, healthier - women from the Colonies in order to repopulate Gilead. How thoughtful. As a result, Emily and Janine are saved.
One of the most powerful scenes in the episode came when June realised Emily had returned to Gilead. Their brief conversation was all that was required for us to know just how much the two women have missed each other.
No. You're crying.
