The Handmaid's Tale Season 2 Review: 7 Ups & 1 Down From 'Women's Work'

Downs...

1. Not Enough Focus On Emily

The Handmaid's Tale
Hulu

As is always the case with The Handmaid's Tale, it's hard to find anything negative to say. But there was one problem with Women's Work and that is the lack of focus on Emily.

Emily's arrest in Season 1 saw her separated from June before she could even learn of her friends name. Her continued persecution and then imprisonment in the colonies made us yearn for her release all the more. When she was finally relieved of her duties in the Colonies and returned to Gilead, there was finally a little bit of joy to be had in this dark dystopian world. However, considering how long we've been waiting to have Emily back with her friends, she barely appeared in the episode.

Actress Alexis Bledel had only one short scene, which saw Emily openly rant about how the bomb was the best thing to happen to Gilead. It appears that our beloved handmaid hasn't lost her rebellious streak after all - and it could spell trouble for everyone else moving forward.
