The Haunting Of Bly Manor: Ranking Every Character Worst To Best

7. Henry Wingrave

Miles The Haunting Of Bly Manor

The resident drunk, damaged uncle, Henry Wingrave is not particularly endearing from his first scene. He's blunt, dismissive, and probably smells a bit too strongly of whiskey. He's condescending towards Dani, not taking her seriously in their meeting. It's only when Dani bumps into him at a pub afterwards that he agrees to make her the au pair at Bly Manor.

Henry is a character who remains unlikable through much of the season, frequently appearing intoxicated and unwilling to participate in Miles and Flora's lives as their last surviving adult relative. As Bly tends to do, his character gets developed in one particularly strong episode, highlighting his grief and his difficulties in attempting to break through his own pain to get to the the Wingrave children.

His chance at redemption ultimately comes a little too late, as the events of the last two episodes come to a head, but he still does try at the very least, which is admirable in itself. Henry may be a drinker, a hallucinator, and an iffy man overall, but he deserves his chance to redeem himself in the audience's eyes, and his attempt to do so is emotional, his resolution even more so.
