The IT Crowd: Every Main Character Ranked Worst To Best
2. Roy
"Have you tried turning it off and on again?". If you can read that in any voice other than Roy's iconic accent, then you clearly never watched this show or didn't watch it enough.
Chris O'Dowd is a great performer who brought his personality to the forefront of this character, and it helped him feel realistic despite some of his weirder moments. As Roy, he brought a solid sense of adult geekiness that made him feel believable yet effortlessly charming.
Part of what made Roy so great was how well he combined cynicism with goofiness. He toed the line between someone who was too silly and a recluse who hated everyone and everything. Plenty of viewers could relate to his mix of outlandishness and pessimism, which helped him become one of the most grounded characters in the show.
Finally, his friendship with Moss was a solid way to make Roy seem like the straight man. While he still did plenty of bizarre things, he always seemed normal when compared to Moss, which gave him an essential place in the show.
