The IT Crowd: Every Main Character Ranked Worst To Best
Who rocked the Reynholm industries basement best?
Looking through the rich catalogue of British comedy shows is bound to give you a mixed bag of characters. You can look to The Office for something gritty and full of cringe, The Inbetweeners for a nostalgic yet embarrassing look at youth, or, if you want something a little quirkier and filled with zany characters, you can look towards The IT Crowd.
This series was an absolute hit as it kept a small and intimate cast but put them in some outlandish situations. Watching as the IT support staff at Reynholm industries dealt with their crazy bosses, ungrateful co-workers, and ridiculous situations was an absolute blast. Although the series has been finished for some time now, it's still massively popular.
A significant part of what made this show such a fun time were the central characters, who all fit distinct archetypes and perfectly played off each other. Unlike many other shows, they didn't rely entirely on stereotypes; instead, they built a foundation upon them and created interesting characters around the cliches.
Every main character in this show had something great to give, but some gave a little more than others.
6. Richmond
Seeing Richmond at the bottom of this list is not a sign of goth hating; in fact, it's easy to see why Richmond is one of the most popular and beloved characters in the show. Noel Fielding came into this series with the quirky and odd energy he's known for and had so much fun with the role. This made Richmond a delightful distraction from the norm but couldn't save him from feeling irrelevant.
Richmond was undoubtedly eye-catching thanks to his deep voice, overly macabre tones and Dracula-esque design. Still, despite this, he had very little agency in the series, with no bearing on the plot and very few appearances that lasted more than a few minutes.
Making a good impression in a short amount of time is excellent, but it was hard to think of him as a real lead, especially as his character mainly revolved around one joke - that being his goth lifestyle. If he'd appeared more often, he'd have soared to the top (like Goth 2 Boss), but as it stands, he was too much of a side character.
