The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power - 11 Things We Expect To See

9. The Dwarven Kingdoms

New Line Cinema / Warner Bros. Pictures

If there's one thing the oft-criticised Hobbit films did right, it was expanding the intriguing lore behind the Dwarves. Their history and role in major events make them an interesting yet mostly untapped race in the world of Tolkien.

The series also has the opportunity to tackle the lives of the Dwarves who lived in Khazad-dûm, which in the films were the Mines of Moria. Due to its wealth of Mithril, it flourished in its trade with Elves. Once one of the greatest Dwarven kingdoms, it fell in the Third Age when the Dwarves unearthed the ancient evil Balrog.

A major character that was announced, to be played by Owain Arthur, was one named Durin, the name of major Dwarven kings. Which "Durin" he is is still unknown, as there were multiple Durins, but the character is most likely Durin III, who had a good relationship with Celebrimbor and was given a "lesser" ring of power as a result.

Durin III was also the leader who was able to fight off Sauron's forces and defend his kingdom so effectively that Sauron could not penetrate its defences.
