Star Wars has a long history of modifying real weapons to build small arms for the movies. For the original Star Wars, the budget was so minimal that the production could only afford to make minor cosmetic changes.

For example, Han Solo's famous DL-44 blaster was made from a Mauser C96 pistol, which can easily be seen in its broomhandle grip and rectangular magazine, with a few extra pieces attached.

By the time of The Mandalorian, budget and resources were no longer an issue for Lucasfilm or Disney and the props department went all out.

This truly came to the forefront in a glorious early scene of the ship's weapons locker. Almost all of the neatly displayed weapons are actual firearms or air guns that have been modified to give them the proper look, driving fans who know their weapons into delighted squeals.

The real-world weapons on display include the Astra 400 pistol, a Webley MK 6 flare gun, a Defense Tech gas gun, a Steyr M1912, a Beretta 12 S submachine gun, and a .177 Acvoke airgun. All of these firearms, or replicas of them, have been tweaked or combined to create a veritable arsenal at Mando's fingertips.

It's a long way from making 'Pew, Pew' noises with a cocked thumb and forefinger.
