The Mandalorian 2.7 Review - 6 Ups And 1 Down From Chapter 15

3. Richard Brake's Slimy Imperial Officer

The Mandalorian Chapter 15
Lucasfilm

To date, Season 2 of The Mandalorian has now given us two supremely sinister Imperial officers. There was Titus Welliver's captain in Chapter 11, and now we have Richard Brake's Valin Hess - an officer who partook in Operation Cinder in the immediate aftermath of the Second Death Star's destruction.

Brake brings a smarminess to Hess and makes him one of the more memorable Imperial characters in Star Wars thus far. He's lazy, privileged, and oh so utterly evil, caring little for the soldiers who died under his command and jokingly referring to them as "heroes of the Empire" as he treats himself, Migs and Din to refreshments.

He does a great job of making this Imperial particularly loathsome, and for that, he's definitely one of the episode's strongest aspects.
