Dave Filioni's previous Star Wars series were animated outings, which are all available on Disney+. The Clone Wars and Rebels are both outstanding and well worth the watch as they flesh out the Star Wars universe on an incredible level. Resistance isn't as good as the other two, unfortunately.

The Darksaber was created a thousand years before the Clone Wars, which is the first time fans see it, by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian Jedi. The handle and guard were more angular than a typical lightsaber, which was in line with Mandalorian designs. The blade was shorter, black and shaped more like a typical sword blade. It's edges seem to absorb and warp light.

Pre Vizsla, leader of Clan Vizsla and the Death Watch, held it during the Clone Wars until it was taken by Darth Maul. It made its way to Rebels where Sabine Wren carried it until she passed it on to Bo-Katan Kryze, sister of the late Duchess Satine. In The Mandalorian, Moff Gideon wields it. The Darksaber is a key symbol of authority and power in Mandalorian culture so Gideon holding it has huge implications for the second season.
