The Mandalorian Season 3: Everything We Know So Far
1. Grogu Will Not Be Returning
Grogu was what made the first two seasons of The Mandalorian work so well. Unless your name is Gennedy Tartakovsky, having a protagonist who doesn't speak unless he absolutely has to can be something of an albatross around the neck of a TV show. But Samurai Jack at least wasn't obsessed with covering his face with an emotionless helmet all the time. If this show was going to work, Din needed someone to talk to. And so they came up with Grogu.
Grogu provided the balancing weight to Din's journey that he sorely needed, giving him someone to talk to and care for so the audience has a better window into his head. It's through Grogu that we learn Din's morals, inner demons, insecurities, and hopes. Plus the idea of a Mandalorian bounty hunter essentially being a single dad was the kind of straight-for-the-heartstrings twist that got folks so invested.
But now that Grogu is gone, what now? With the ending of season 2, it's all but confirmed that - at least for the foreseeable future - Grogu's part in the story is concluded. Of course, with Din headed straight for Mandalore with Bo-Katan and the Nite Owls, he's not gonna be lacking for folks to talk to, but it's definitely not gonna be the same as with Grogu.
Grogu's departure has completely upended the status quo of The Mandalorian, and it proves that the one thing we know for sure about season 3, is that we have no damn idea what's coming next.
