The Mandalorian Series 1 Review: 7 Ups And 2 Downs
3. Ludwig Göransson's Distinct, Moody Score
The show's visuals and production design may be what mainly sells a show's aesthetic, but Ludwig Göransson's musical score, sounding like a samurai revenge flick mixed with an old school western, is what brings the whole thing together. Whether it's being used to add a little sizzle to a badass moment, one-liner or just to immerse you into a particular scene, Göransson hits.
Much like the show's titular character, the score is not in your face or ever fighting for your attention. If you're not paying attention, it sometimes gets lost when the blasters start pew pewing. That said, if you take the time to listen, Göransson's accompaniment elevates so many moments and scenes far more often than you may realize.
It pairs beautifully with the show's retro feel, always working towards heightening the drama and sense of adventure. Although the strong visuals and believable world are what's most often praised for selling a series' authenticity, it's Göransson's music that gives that final pull to keep you hooked.
