The Muppets: 6 Highlights And 4 Lowlights From The Pilot

3. Highlight: Fozzie's Standup Routine

When he wasn't being wasted on the girlfriend storyline, Fozzie is well utilized during the actual production of Up Late With Miss Piggy. He's basically Piggy's sidekick on the show, warming up the audience before the taping begins and then serving as her announcer. While nearly everything about The Muppets has been given a modern spin, Fozzie's standup is essentially kept completely in line with what it was like in the 1970s. Nothing has changed, nor should it have been.

He still stands up there on stage trying to make the audience laugh, his jokes are still super lame and they constantly bomb, and Statler and Waldorf are still heckling him. Seeing this whole thing play out is like saying hello to an old friend after so many years, and it's kind of inspiring that Fozzie keeps on trying with his act even after it's failed this many times. Statler and Waldorf's jokes are funny as ever, and as with the classic Muppet Show, they get the last word at the very end. These cheesy jokes are among the most delightful things about the Muppets, far more memorable than the adult jokes, and so giving Fozzie some standup time will be a great way to keep those in the series.
