6. His Diwali Day Proposal
To continue the trend of Michael Scott and his abysmal relationships comes the terrible moment when he caused havoc at the Diwali Day celebration. Not only was his lack of understanding the celebration's tradition and meaning bad enough, but his grand romantic gesture went down like a wet firecracker.
After Kelly invited the office to a Diwali celebration, an overly excited Michael got very vocal about it. He mistakenly believed that Diwali was essentially an Indian Halloween, and thus told his date, Carol, to turn up in a costume. Sadly, she was distraught to discover that it wasn't a costume party at all, and was now at the party dressed as a cheerleader.
To make matters worse, at some point during the evening, in what seemed like a romantic gesture - but was likely just a desire for attention - Michael publicly proposed to Carol. This could have been romantic if it weren't for the fact that it was only their ninth date.
Michael's optimism and ignorance can often be adorable, but acting so selfishly and lacking any self-awareness made this one of his worst moments. However, on one nice note, the actor playing Carol was Steve Carell's real-life wife, Nancy Carell. So at least they got a happy ending in reality.
