No one can say that Michael didn't give them a fair warning for the awful behaviour he was going to emit, as this terrible moment came from the pilot episode and still holds up as one of his worst actions in the whole show.

In this inaugural episode, Michael took the time to show the new temporary worker Ryan around the office and tried to show him how he works as a boss, i.e. friend first, boss second. To do so, he decided to bring the receptionist Pam in for a prank.

But, his idea of a prank was far away from Jim's funny shenanigans, as he told her that she was being fired for stealing post-it notes, which she adamantly denied. Rather than letting her know he was joking as she started to get emotional, he continued the gag, leading to awkward tension in the room and poor Pam bursting into tears.

Keen Office fans will also likely recall when he played the same trick on the new receptionist Erin. However, while that was bad too - and he should have learnt his lesson - he revealed the truth of the joke quickly enough to relieve the tension, whereas here it went on for far too long.
