If there's one style of filmmaking that no one expected to turn into the perfect sitcom recipe, it's documentaries. Despite that, the mockumentary sitcom has been a comedy staple for over two decades now, proving that sometimes "reality" is more fun than you'd expect. There have been some fantastic shows in this vein, but the biggest are arguably The Office US and Parks & Recreation.
A major aspect of what made these shows work were their memorable characters. They each displayed over-the-top personalities whilst still being confined to the concept of reality, making them equal parts relatable and hilarious. However, two names stand out when you talk about these shows, those being Dwight Schrute and Ron Swanson.
This pair of confident and somewhat dangerous men brought a sense of severity to their respective shows that played off the other characters perfectly. Dwight's severe attitude and quirkiness was the ideal foil to Jim, and Ron's overly machismo stoic nature was a bright spot in Parks & Rec.
