The Politician Review: 5 Ups & 3 Downs

1. It's Sometimes A Little Too Off-The-Wall

The Politician is very much like Glee in that it's well aware of the fact that it's a dramedy. However, like the aforementioned show, it isn't fully aware of how and when to employ comedy and/or drama at the right time.

Yes, it's supposed to be satirical, but it also deals with some important issues, and every once in a while it would be nice to see some of the less major characters realize that. Sure, the show thrives on its comedic tone and off-the-wall characters, but at the end of the day, this is still supposed to be a real world with real people - and the problem is that they don't always feel like real people. In short, it's a little too off-the-wall for its own good.

Astrid's one dimensional father (who didn't seem all that perturbed by her kidnapping and yet called the police anyway), her one-dimensional mother who occasionally showed potential that was never realized and the goofy Ricardo - whose self-proclaimed 'dumbness' was just far too convenient for the writers to take advantage of. And then you have the cardboard policeman who could be bribed by both the accusers and the accused and just felt like a cartoon character... a bad cartoon character.

Even in an off-the-wall world, less can still be more, but some of these characters were just too much.

Now, for the positives...
