The Punisher: 25 WTF Moments
11. The Kandahar Flashback (Episode 3, "Kandahar")
The show's third episode features multiple flashbacks to Frank's time serving in Afghanistan, leading up to a risky assault on a compound, one which Frank expressed his doubts to Rawlins about, but was quickly shut down.
In the sequence, an incensed Frank murders countless enemies in a prolonged shootout, and things only get worse when he's forced to use his bare hands to fend off his last few attackers.
The White Buffalo's "Wish It Was True" provides a stirring soundtrack as Frank, having completely lost it, smashes an enemy's face in with a rock, with Jon Bernthal's visceral performance conveying the brutality far more effectively than showing his enemy's destroyed face would have.
Thanks to the music, the sharp direction and Bernthal's brilliant work, this one really lingers in the mind, and serves as the show's most potent examination of PTSD (even if it's mostly dropped shortly after this).
