The Punisher Season 2: 15 Easter Eggs & References Explained

14. The Mennonite

Netflix & Marvel Comics

The secondary antagonist of the series is John Pilgrim (Josh Stewart), a born-again Christian with an ultra-violent, sinful past whose wife Rebecca is terminally ill.

He finds himself on a mission to track down young Amy Bendix (Giorgia Whigham), which brings him into conflict with Frank, kick-starting a feud that lasts the entirety of the season.

And though at first glance it seems like Pilgrim is an entirely new creation for the TV series, he's actually loosely based on the more recent Punisher comic villain The Mennonite, who was instead a devout Amish farmer rather than a Christian fundamentalist.

Either way, Stewart does a fine job with a less-cartoonish, more gritty villain than fans have come to expect from Netflix's MCU shows.
