15. Jigsaw

After season one ended with Billy Russo (Ben Barnes) horrifically mutilated and comatose at the hands of Frank Castle (Bernthal), season two sees him fully slide into his iconic comic book alter-ego Jigsaw, albeit with a twist.

To the disappointment of some fans, Russo sports only superficial scarring to his face - likely due to the time required to apply complex make-up effects for the entire season - with the implication being that his deepest scars are psychological.

As a compromise, Billy ends up wearing a couple of therapy masks throughout the season which hew closer to the more grotesquely stylised villain design of the comics.

We also get an hilariously ham-fisted explanation for the moniker from his psychiatrist Krista Dumont (Floriana Lima), who claims that "building a jigsaw" is part of fixing his mental dysfunction (if you say so...), and later in the season one character calls him a "jigsaw-faced bastard." Nice.
