The Simpsons: 10 Absolute Worst Episodes Ever
2. All Singing, All Dancing
Clip shows are bad. Clip show musicals are worse. Clip show musicals about musicals are abhorrent, because the meta-humour only works once before it starts getting tedious (also known as the Family Guy effect).
And while the episode begins promisingly with "Gonna Paint A Wagon", it quickly becomes dry. The gag that Homer calls singing "fruity" and "the lowest form of communication", while also singing his objection that musicals are fake and phony is obvious and trite. The best Groening joke about irony (which also had better musical numbers) had also already been made by Futurama.
Snake's appearance halfway through the episode, and then his disappearance, and then his reappearance, is confusing and unnecessary - an attempt to add tension into a comedy that completely falls flat. The biggest sin of this episode is reminding fans that there are better episodes of The Simpsons that they could be watching instead.
