The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show reveals everything that is wrong with The Simpsons. While complaining that the meta-cartoon of Itchy and Scratchy has become too cliché and outdated, The Simpsons implicitly reveals its own flaws that it has accumulated over eight seasons and, rather than try to fix them, decides rather to point them out in one episode.

How often have fans seen new characters introduced and dropped as quickly as Roy in later seasons of The Simpsons?

The ending is just as bad, with Homer forgetting to ask for any money from his role as everyone's least favourite talking dog meaning that no character has made any notable development and the entire episode being a waste of twenty-four minutes.

Ironically, Lisa criticises Itchy And Scratchy for losing its novelty, yet this episode spends so much time trying to be a self-parody that it, ironically, forgets that it is not enough to just point out the flaws, they need to be improved on too.
