The Simpsons: 10 Absolute Worst Episodes Ever

6. Simpsons Bible Stories

The seven minute format is something that has always been a bane of Simpsons fans in particular, and compromises on depth of story-telling in an unfortunate way.

Simpsons Bible Stories feels lacklustre, playing on too many obvious jokes and retreading material done in other programs. Marge and Homer as Adam and Eve is trite, and Snake being the snake must have taken hours of creative thought. Additionally Lisa and Milhouse recreating an elementary school version of the 10 plagues manages to make every line of dialogue irritating, and belongs more in a bad 80s kids television series than in The Simpsons.

And the less said about Homer as King Solomon, the better.

They say that The Bible is the greatest story ever told, but Tim Long, Larry Doyle and Matt Selman could have done something a little more clever than this bland reskinning of basic stories. Perhaps if they had gone with something a little more niche it would have been more successful, especially considering that, in earlier seasons, The Simpsons had some of the most thoughtfully edgy religious humor on television.
