The Simpsons: 10 Absolute Worst Episodes Ever
7. Alone Again, Natura-Diddily
Maude Flanders dying is something that should have been much bigger than it was. When a character dies in a sitcom, the episode usually has each major character dealing with the absence, and it makes for a pretty poignant piece of television. Unfortunately for Maude, in her final moments, none of the characters seemed to care.
The main problem with this episode is that everything goes much too fast; Ned loses his wife, grieves, has a crisis of faith, then dates again, meets a potential new wife and regains his faith, all in 24 minutes. It's so packed that there is no time left for any of the heart needed.
And Homer claiming that he stopped an ambulance getting to Maude by parking in the emergency space is simply not funny; it's worryingly uncaring about something that should be played seriously and it makes it hard to forgive the fat man.
