The Simpsons: 10 Absolute Worst Episodes Ever
4. Bart Has Two Mommies
Bart Has Two Mommies is one of those rare episodes where everything about it is just overwhelmingly bad. The jokes are stilted and feel so exaggerated - rather than witty - and it feels like an insult to the fans.
Flanders' overprotectiveness when it comes to his children is funny in small doses, usually in relation to an action of one of the main Simpson family, but making it a major theme of the episode results in fatal flatness.
The final gag is also shockingly poor: Bart calls Rod 'gay', which Rod is told means 'when you were scared of something and now you aren't scared of it anymore'. The pay-off sees Rod yelling to Ned that 'Mrs. Simpson made me gay!'
The Simpsons made their insightful and enjoyable comments on homosexuality in Homer's Phobia and Three Gays of the Condo, so ending on such a childish and casually homophobic excuse for a joke is disappointing at best and insulting at worst.
