The Simpsons: 10 Best Ever Treehouse Of Horror Stories

8. The Shinning (Treehouse of Horror V)

Another top-notch horror film parody, and another top-notch piece of Willie. Telepathically linked to Bart through "the Shin" (though not between 4pm and 5pm, as "that's Willie's time"), Willie is on hand to help save the family from a Homer driven mad by a lack of beer and TV in Mr Burns' remote mountainside hotel.

Somewhat predictably, Willie€™s hacked to bits immediately. Fortunately, as ever, the "warm glowing warming glow" of TV is there to reunite the family in the snow.

What's great about this episode in particular is just how comprehensively the writers manage to squeeze pretty much the entirety of The Shining into about six minutes, plus some bonus scenes with a ghostly and homicidal Moe tending the bar downstairs. As an exercise in really tightly written, fat-free comedy, there's not a lot to touch it.
