The Simpsons: 10 Best Nameless Characters

9. Veterinarian

In "Dog of Death", the Simpsons have to cut costs to save up for an expensive operation for their pet pooch Santa's Little Helper. An operation that can only be carried out by Springfield's premier vet.

Springfield’s hunk of a vet is modelled off of the titular character from Ben Casey, a 1960s' medical drama. If that's not a show you're familiar with, let's just say that this vet has a heroic, all-American attitude to saving animal lives.

When we are first introduced to the veterinarian, he is valiantly trying to resuscitate a hamster by administering defibrillator shocks. When this proves futile, he laments, “This is the part of the job I hate”, before tossing the hamster into a trash can, above which is a small basketball hoop.

This gag alone gets the unnamed vet a place in the list.

More noble however is that he saves the life of Santa’s Little Helper, going as far as to give the dog mouth to mouth, wherein the canine's condition is “upgraded from stable to frisky.”

Later he even offers to give Homer a tick bath and spay him. A true professional.
