The Simpsons: 10 Best Nameless Characters
7. Wax Lips Salesman
There is no end of sleazy salesmen in The Simpsons.
These slick-talking conmen can be found at expos and conventions throughout the series, always out to swindle the honest folk of Springfield, whether it’s peddling monorails or espousing the benefits of becoming a frame nudger.
The Wax Lips salesman from “Homer Badman” is particularly memorable for the fact that Homer is immediately sceptical of him. Despite claiming that the lips are “the candy of a thousand uses”, he can only provide one use when challenged by Homer - “a hilarious substitute for your own lips.”
Immediately rumbled, he then retreats to the “basement” and hides behind the counter, leaving Homer to nonchalantly steal a bowl of candy lips.
The Simpsons often explores the American Dream, with many characters trying their hands at entrepreneurship, be it Homer and Abe selling love tonic, or Marge taking up the mantel of the pretzel wagon.
But even after these brief forays have ended, the world of The Simpsons still exists with a rich infrastructure of hustling salespeople - from Lyle Lanley to Larry Burns, Herb Powell to ol' Gil - serving as a constant reminder of that bittersweet capitalistic pursuit.
