The Simpsons: 10 Best Treehouse Of Horror Episodes

This trio of terrors opens up with The Thing and I, where Bart discovers his estranged and deranged twin Hugo living in the attic, in a story that genuinely goes for some scares.

The reveal that Bart has been the evil twin all along is a good ghost-story twist, but Dr. Hibbert manages to steal the episode with his line to Hugo, “All these years locked up, I bet you have never seen your own face in the mirror” before punching him through an empty frame. A classic gag.

The Genesis Tub follows, with Lisa creating an advanced civilisation in a petri dish that worship her as God. It’s an okay tale of sibling bickering inspired by the Twilight Zone, but the episode’s highlight is Citizen Kang.

Here Kang and Kodos take centre stage, disguising themselves as Bill Clinton and Bob Dole during the presidential election in order to become ruler of Earth.

The idea that two presidential rivals are politically interchangeable doesn’t really apply in 2021, but iconic moments such as Clinton and Dole holding hands to “exchange protein strands”, and Homer’s ending quip of “Don’t blame me, I voted for Kodos” still land today.
