The Simpsons: 10 Best Treehouse Of Horror Episodes
4. Treehouse VI
Treehouse of Horror VI’s first story sees Springfield besieged by gigantic advertising mascots intent on destroying the town. It’s a good opener, but the real champagne stuff is to follow.
Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace carries the baton from the previous year’s fantastic parody of The Shining, this time taking on Wes Craven’s slasher with Groundskeeper Willie as Freddy Krueger. All the dreamworld visuals are joyous, and it’s one of the more truly horrifying Treehouse tales. Willie turning into the bagpipe-spider and burning alive are both scary moments, but Martin’s rigor mortis corpse is an image that truly stays with you.
And the visual delights keep coming with the final story, Homer³, wherein Homer’s attempt to hide from the visiting Patty and Selma leads him to become lost in the third dimension.
So much comes together to make this one of the best Treehouse segments: the retro CGI, Homer’s animosity towards the cone, Frink’s discovery of the Frinkahedron, and the final, eerily quiet moments where Homer appears in our world, terrified of us strange, five-fingered humanoids.
