The Simpsons: 10 Episodes That Would Have Made Perfect Endings
5. The Movie
So not technically an episode, admittedly, but what better way to cap off a long-running TV show than with a movie version? Sex And The City did it, Community is forever hopeful it'll go out that way, and Arrested Development got to that level of fan delusion a good decade before Dan Harmon. The Simpsons Movie even had the gall to be genuinely good. With many having tuned out of the show as it sagged in its middle-age, millions turned out to watch the movie, which was worked on for a good number of years to hone its best material, whilst also putting together a story (and celebrity guest stars) big enough for a cinematic outing. Also, Homer swore and you saw Bart's weiner. Too hot for TV! Again, though, The Simpsons movie served to do everything a finale should: found room for almost every character, explored new facets of the core ensemble, was really funny, managed a few swipes at the haters, tied up some long-running plot threads and character arcs, generally managing to being everything an ending should be. Except it kept going.
