The Simpsons: 10 Episodes That Would Have Made Perfect Endings

3. 22 Short Films About Springfield

Another contender from the tail end of the show's seventh season, €œ22 Short Films About Springfield€ is an anthology episode that managed to cast a light on almost every single character in Springfield (much like the film), and included a cavalcade of writing talent from Greg Daniels to David S Cohen to Matt Groening himself. It was an ambitious episode, living up to its literal title by flitting between two-dozen vignettes that takes in the wide scope of Springfield's population, humour, satire and heart. And Professor Frink, who shows up too late. The idea was to mimic the inter-linking narratives of Pulp Fiction, whilst not mimicking anything else about the R-rated film. How does it fare as a finale, though? Well again, cutting off after the seventh season doesn't miss out on a whole lot of really good episodes, allowing The Simpsons to exist as this almost perfect run of hilarious, smart episodes. It reminds you of all the great characters. And leaves you with that Cletus The Slack-Jawed yokel song in your head.
